Wow! What a game in Troy Alabama today! The Red Raiders came in to this game not knowing what to expect from the Trojans and it showed in the first half as TTU looked tentative at best over the course of the first 30 minutes and a bit of this one.

TTU got the scoring started when J. Karam connected with J. Amaro for a 28 yard TD strike to put the Red Raiders took the lead 7-0 which seeemed to take the crowd out of things right off the bat. It didn't last long as QB C. Robinson brought them to their feet as he answered with a 26 yard TD pass of his own to B. Exley to knot things upo at 7-7. Karam came back out and maneuvered the Red Raiders down the field and capped the drive off with a 35 Yard pass for a major to M.Kennard to give TTU the lead again at 14-7. Troy tried to answer the bell on the ensuing drive but had to settle for a FG to end off the 1st quarter with TTU up 14-10.

In the second quarter the Red Raiders looked to respond but couldn't and had to settle for a 26 yard FG to increase the lead to 17-10 and put a little bit of breathing room between the two teams. TTU got the ball back after stopping the Trojans and forcing a punt and promptly marched down the field capping off the drive with a TD by HB K. Williams. TTU up 24-10 and seemingly in control and pulling away! Troy however had other plans and efficiently drove down the field and were able to put up 7 points before half to cut the lead to 7. Both teams then traded possessions with no harm done and the Red Raiders took a 24-17 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Coming out in the 3rd quarter, the Trojans got the ball and only a couple plays into the second half C. Robinson found E. Thomas with a pass that he caught, shook off the defender and sprinted 81 yards for the score and the crowd went nuts as the Trojans had tied things up at 24-24. On the next drive Karam not wanting to let this shootout get out of hand was able to find a streaking Amaro for a 26 yard TD pass and the 7 point lead was restored. The TTU Defense then buckled down and was able to find the stops they needed and TTU got TDs from Williams and Amaro to take a 21 point lead to the final quarter.

In the final frame the TTU D stood firm again and got the stops as the Red Raiders continued to score tacking on 10 more points for the 55-24 win and a 2-0 start to their season.

Hilights

J. Karam - 18 for 27 for 413 yards and 5 TDs
K. Williams - 28 rushes for 152 yards and 2 TDs
J. Amaro - 8 catches for 180 yards and 3 TDs
M. Kennard - 2 catches for 88 yards and 1 TD

Coach Matthews was impressed with his teams ability to not get rattled by the Trojans ability early on to stay with the Red Raiders. This was a game featuring two teams playing the same style and it was going to be the team that blinked first who would probably lose. The TTU Defense was the difference in the second half as they shut down the Trojans after the opening drive TD and allowed TTU to get the ball back and score the 31 points that proved to be the difference while shutting out the Trojans down the stretch.
