2011 Eagles Recruiting Preview

One of the biggest reason BC has failed to have sustained success over the years has been because of failures in recruiting. In the past ten years BC has only had one recruiting class in the top 30 in the nation and had several classes outside of the top 50. Without consistent talent the Eagles have had inconsistent success. If the new coaching regime wants to bring this program to a place where it has never been they will need to do better on the recruiting trail. The coaching staff has vowed to work hard in recruiting and sounds confident that they can sign some quality recruits their first year. Preliminary reports show that the Eagles have drawn interest from several solid recruits around the country. If they can secure some early commits then they could be on their way to possibly a top 25 recruiting class.

Coach Petersen and his staff have been hard at work on the recruiting trail but have yet to secure any commitments. They have moved up the list of many key recruits that they have targeted. In the coming weeks they have several recruits coming on visits and the Eagles look to secure commitments from those players. The Boston College class is shaping up to be a pretty solid one if they can keep making progress on their most important recruits. Stay tuned in the coming weeks as we could see BC commitments start to roll in.

The Boston College Eagles recruiting class is finally beginning to round into form. They got their first hard commit of the season, despite having several soft commits, for a 2star tackle from New Hampshire, Sean Harris. Harris is a big tackle standing at 6'5" and 286 lbs. Harris should be just the type of lineman the Eagles need to create running lanes for the BC backs. Sean is extremely strong and with a little bit of patience he could become a starting lineman for Boston College.

After the big win this week over #5 Virginia Tech expect to see some more commits coming into Chestnut Hill in the coming weeks.

In the past two weeks the Boston College Eagles have begun to pull in the recruits they have been patiently waiting for. Between the past two weeks BC has added 5 recruits to their commit list. The BC coaching staff was able to flip several players in their favor and even one player who was soft committed to Syracuse and on a visit to New York but then decided to be an Eagle. The Eagles got commitments from HB Ryan Gardener, DE Matt Wilson, SS Marcel Hollis, DE Jeremy Rutledge, and CB Jermain Austin. With these commits BC begins to move up the national recruiting ranks and looks to continue to rise as they eye more commitments in the coming weeks.

Don't look now but suddenly the Boston College recruiting class to the 26th class in the country. After being laughed at and made fun of for their failures to pull in recruits in the first several weeks, BC had been able to grab recruits by the bunches. In the past two weeks BC has secured commits from 8 recruits. Those recruits are 3 star T Jim McGill, 3 Star DT Jeff Kelly, 1 star P Michael McCoy, 3 star ATH Eric Weiss, 1 Star C William Anderson, 4 Star ATH Jake Kramer, 3 Star TE Zach Peters, and 3 Star ATH Tony Garrett. All these recruits and the BC Coaching staff saw the comments made early in the year and will be looking to take it out on their opponents when they step on campus. Look out for this BC class in a few years. Twisted Evil

2012 Boston College Recruiting Preview

Boston College is coming off of a top 25 recruiting class, the best ranked class in school history, and is looking to pull in an even better class in 2012. Coach Petersen and his staff hit the road hard last year and the hard work paid off at least in the ability to pull in highly rated recruits. Now of course the coaches will need to coach those recruits if they are going to be any good, but that is a separate issue. None of the recruits are going to start this season and most are going to redshirt, but all of them should have an impact at some point in their BC careers. The best recruit that signed with Boston College last season was 4 star HB Ryan Gardener. Gardener will look to career on the line of great Boston College running backs whenever his number is called.

Boston College got off to a great start on the field and off the field in 2012. On the field BC beat the #1 ranked Boise Broncos, the first time BC has ever taken down the #1 team in the country, and off the field BC already has secured two commitments on the recruiting trail. The first commitment and arguably the best recruit Boston College has targeted is 4 star WR Ben Lewis. Ben was clocked running a 4.36 40 yard dash and has shown excellent skills as a receiver. The 6'4" wide out from North Tonawanda, NY will fit in nicely with the other big WRs and the huge 6'8" TE that BC signed last season. The other commitment was from a 6'4" T, Alex Moore, from Crown Point, IN. Moore may not be as flashy of a signing as is Lewis but Moore will look to be an anchor of the offensive line in the future that BC is so dependent upon.

Boston College got off to that hot start in recruiting and it appeared that they were in for a good class, but then things went south. The Eagles lost out and fell behind on some recruits that they had targeted. The coaching staff didn't get discouraged and just had to look a little deeper at the pool of players. This past week they started recruiting two players to bolster the defense. Both were so excited that Boston College wanted them to come that they committed on the spot when Coach Petersen offered them scholarships. Marquis Williams is a 6'2" CB from Florida and the staff actually likes him better than a corner they were recruiting almost all season that committed to Illinois. Williams has excellent speed but has room to grow and will be given the time to do just that. Antwan Hines is a SS from South Carolina who should fit in nicely. BC wanted to add depth at the safety position and Hines will be a perfect fit there.

Boston College has added 4 solid quality recruits the past two weeks. The best of the bunch and maybe the best recruit that BC has committed all season is 4 star DE Michael Myrick. Myrick looks like he will be a perfect fit as a defensive end in a 3 down lineman set which Boston College has moved to and will likely stay with. The Eagles also added 1 star FB Brian James, 3 star G Joey Johnson, and 3 star WR Desmond Edmonds.

Boston College had a drop off last year in recruiting. In Coach Petersen's first season the Eagles had their best recruiting class ever, 12th in the nation, but last year they fell to 38th in the country. BC got off to a good start but then things quickly went south as they lost several close battles for key players. The recruits that BC did haul in should develop into key players but the overall depth of the class isn't overly strong. Coach Petersen vowed to do anything necessary to put together a great class in 2013.

Coach Petersen looks like he will definitely make good on that promise after a phenomenal start to recruiting this week. The Eagles had three players commit on the spot when offered. All the players will fill big needs for BC and are all excellent players. They committed 4 star WR Paul Ford from Pottsville, Pennsylvania, 4 star DT Tremaine Johnson from Berwick, Louisiana, and 4 star SS Matthew Booth from Livingston, New Jersey. This is a similar situation as last year when BC got two commits the first week of recruiting then didn't do much else the rest of the year. This season they Eagles coaching staff has a little bit of a different plan to ensure that the same thing doesn't happen again and hopes to continue to bring in the commitments.

Boston College tacks on another commitment to their slowly growing list. They add their third defensive player thus far, this time from a corner JJ McCray. McCray, from St. Petersburg, Florida, is a speedy CB who has just about all the skills you are looking for in a defensive back. McCray will one day be the anchor of the BC secondary and may see playing time as early as his second year on campus. The Eagles now have four commitments on the season already putting them in a great position to add more in the coming weeks.
