Wisconsin is on the top ten of what seems like every top recruit. Who knew Madison was so appealing to high school seniors.

I don't think my class this year will be rated as highly as last years but I think I will get more quality players this year.

This year I just hope to fill vacant positions, next year I will focus on signing the top recruits. Starting out as a 4* program won't help much and will be different than I'm used as far a recruiting. Even my USC team as a 6* program struggled getting top recruits consistently.

Ya its definitely harder to recruit as a 4* star school than as a 6* school. But you're right even once you get to be a big time program recruiting can be hit or miss especially in an online dynasty. In an offline dynasty usually you can beat out the computer but it's hard to beat out a human.

After having a highly touted recruiting class in '09 the Badgers have started off on the same foot, if not better. They have offered 10 5* prospects 7 of which are ranked number 1 at their respective position. They are also looking at 10 4* and 4 3* prospects. Their best prospect has to be either #1QB JuCo Justin Rust or #1 ATH Jeremy Hicks. A sleeper definitely has to be the 6'2 250lb defensive end out of Greensburg, PA. They have a total of 24 prospects they are targeting. 3 are quarterbacks, 1 running back, 2 wideouts, 2 tight ends 1 tackle, 4 guards, 1 d-end, 2 dtackles, 2 outside linebackers, and 3 cornerbacks, so overall a very balanced board.
Other players who are very highly touted are #1 WR Kellen Cooper, #1 CB Chris Clemens, and #1 T Jack Johnson.

With the 20 targets thats are rated 4* or better, this could potentially be one of the best recruiting classes in Wisconsin history and on a limb, the best ever, period. Look back every week as we will begin breaking down who is for real and who might be a bust.

BadgerBlitz.com is going to be here every week to give you an update on who is Wisconsin is going after and what makes them who they are on the recruiting trail.

To start off the first week we have 2 players who have been offered by several school but still dont have a favorite as it is only week 2. The first is Brendan Gray out of Liberty, TX. He is rated the #2 overall outside linebacker. He is a bulky 6'3 241lbs. This 5* has offers from Oklahoma, Texas, Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Wisconsin. He hasnt shown a favorite yet, but is getting ready to schedule his visits for the upcoming season. His first priority is finding a school that has great fan support and is a great place to play on Saturdays. He also wants to be able to make an impact his first year on campus and ultimately helping his team win championships. After watching a few of his game tapes, our recruting specialist Randall McCray, a former coach and recruiting coordinator at Wisconsin, has seen that Brendan has great tackliing abilities which compliment his speed and agility. He also has a keen sense of knowing what type of play the offense will run, very good play recognition.

Our next profile is going to b about another Texas native. It's Ted Hayes of Duncanville, TX. He rated the #12 CB overall in this class. He has the perfect size for a DB at 6'0 177lbs. He has offers from Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, Wisconsin, and Iowa. Notre Dame seems to be the slight favorite but he hasnt announced anything yet. He wants a school that not only will bring him success at the collegiate level, but a school that will give him an opportunity playing on Sunday's. His highlight film shows he has excellent speed and plays amazing press coverage, while his zone and man coverage need some working on.

However there is one recruit Wisconsin will not be seeing in Madison come next fall. That is Jeremy Hicks. He was offered by Wisconsin along with Notre Dame last week and apparently he didnt want to miss out on playing at one of the most prestigious football programs in college sports. He verbally committed to the Notre Dame program making him one of the first to do so as it was only week 1.

Well thats it for this weeks recruit profile, look back next week as we will have more news updating you on how Wisconsin is getting ready for the future.

In this weeks recruiting update for the Wisconsin Badgers, we have to Keystone State prospects who are very highly touted and are someof the best in their state as well as the country.

First is Alex Parker of Kingston, PA. He is rated the #6 overall OLB. He stands at 6'4 246lbs and is a very high 4* prospect. When asked what he wants in his school that he chooses, he said "I want to be able to go to a big conference where i will have a lot of exposure and I also want a coach who is well known for what he does"
His game tapes show he has avg to good tackling with excellent agility. He has a amzing football knowledge and can tell whether it is a run or a pass just by looking at the quarterbacks eyes before the snap. He has offers from West Virginia, as well as Wisconsin. If he has a solid senior year, he could see significant playing time come next fall.

Next we have Craig Anderson. He is from Beaver Falls, PA and is rated the #10 overall ATH. With his size, 6'2 232lbs he can play wide reciever, tght end, saftey, and has even play linebacker in high school. Despite his 4* rating, he only has one scholarship offer and that is from the Badgers. He said "I want to go to a place with a great campus where something is always happening." And when asked about only having one scholarship offer from a D1 program he said "I know what my talents and abilities are, now whether coaches see it or not, thats their problem. I'm going to work hard wherever I go. I have alot of D2 schools looking at me as well, so there are soe options there." He has outstanding speed and plays very good zone coverage. He has streaky hands, which cause people to think he will be on the defensive side in college.

Thats it for this week, well have 2 more players to profile next week.

Wisconsin picked up their first recruit on Friday, the night before their game with Indiana. It was from Kellen Cooper out of Lufkin, TX. He is the #1 rated wide receiver in this years class. He stands at 6'6 210lbs. He is a physical receiver and a threat with the deep ball because of his long stride and ability to get away from smaller defenders. He received offers from the Badgers as well as Tennessee. He had interest in Florida and Florida State.

He is visiting Madison this week to watch the Badgers host the 1-3 Indiana Hoosiers. He was only on campus for about 45 minutes, and thats when he knew this was where he wanted to be. He stated "Wisconsin's fans are amazing, Camp Randall is one of the hardest places to play in the country, thats the kind of atmosphere I love playing in." He also noted that their academics are top notch and thats what really influenced his decision as he stated he is coming to school for a degree first then football. But when he earns that degree, he aspires to be in the NFL someday and he knows that Wisconsin can help him with that dream.

He has excellent speed along with his ostrich like stride. Great agility which gives him the skill to run his routes with precision and accuracy. He also has unheard of leaping abilities which makes him able to go up and grab the high ball out of the air.
After some research, we discovered he recently broke the Texas state record for the 100 meter, which in Texas is sort of a big deal. Wisconsin picked up a good one with this kid.

Wisconsin picked up its second committment of the 2010 campaign. This time around it was a guard. Rob Ashley out of El Dorado, AR. He is the # 21 overall guard, and the # 9 ranked JuCo player in this class. He is a massive 6'3 315lbs. He had one offer from Wisconsin with some interest from Miami(FL) and Notre Dame.

He values a good coach, which he will be getting one of the best in the college game today in Muzzy Colosimo. He also wanted a place that had an excellent weight room and place to play and practice.

After watchin ghis highlight tape, he has brute strength. Which makes him more of a run blocker, along with his size. He is an average pass blocker, with very good footwork in both of these fields.

We will have more Badger news in the coming weeks as the season starts to shape up.

The Badgers picked up another committment this week before their game with Mississippi State. It's there third of the class and their second guard.

It came from Racine, Wisconsin native JJ Babcock. He is a 6'1 266lb guard with outstanding pass and run blocking skills. He has text book impact blocking. Even though he is small in weight and shorter than usual in height he has the brute strength needed to play at the Big 10 level.

After having a press conference at his high school to announce his decision he told reporters that, "Wisconsin was my number one from the get-go obviously as they are right down the road. But that wasnt the only factor that swayed my decision. I really liked the lifestyle of the campus and how something is always going on. Also Coach Colosimo is running a top notch program up their, he has that team well in check and he has been recognized for it. But all in all I really wanted to go to a place where I can help win championships and after last season this present season, Wisconsin can do just that. Im grateful for having an offer from Florida State and also to the other schools that were in contact with me."

As he stated, he had one other offer from FSU and talked to others such as Auburn and Miami. But he seems to have found his home in Wisconsin and hopefully he finds a spot on the line within the next 2-3 years as this kid has amazing potential.

With only 2 weeks left in the season, teams have to start rapping up their recruiting for the year until after the national championship. Which means a lot of kids are going to try and pick where they want to go before the offseason so they can start working towards their future. 2 of those kids found Madison Wisconsin the best place for them for the next 4 years to continue their football careers. Both are offensive lineman, one from the Badger State the other from Florida.

First is Nick Johnson, a 6'3 320lb guard from Shorewood, WI. He is the #50th rated Guard in the class and is listed as a 3* on most sites. The only offer he received was from Wisconsin but he had other interest from Nebraska. "I really wanted a place with a program set in place where I can come in and help." "I also wanted to stay close to home, and that being said Wisconsin University is about 10 miles from where I live."
He has dependable run and pass blocking however he needs alot of workd to be able to play in his first 2 years in Madison. Expect a redshirt his first year on campus.

Next is Largo, FL native Brian McCoy. He is a 6'4 300lb tackle who drew the interest from Wisconsin, Miami, and OSU to name a few, Wisconsin was the only one to offer McCoy. "I feed off of crowd energy so I needed a place where the fans really get pumped." Great run and pass blocking abilities with amazing strength. He can bench 438lbs and his squat max is an area record at 630lbs. He will most likely redshirt as well, it just depends on how he does in summer camp.

Even though the Badgers arent plaing this week they did pick up their sixth recruit of the year this week. It was from a local tight end whos name is Riley Pittman. He is from Two Rivers, WI. He has great size at 6'2 255lbs, great speed for his size and position. Solid route running as well as hands. He is listed more as a blocking tight end as he is able to pick up on occasions 2 defenders after a missed block. "I really wanted to go to Wisconsin since I was little and i was a little depressed that they hadent contacted me earlier but one day after practice I got a call from Coach Colosimo himself saying that he saw my tape and was amazed and it sorta just went from there." "I really wanted a place with great tradition, as well as a well-known coach. But I also needed a place that will help get to a future football career." Pittman was offered by just Wisconsin and UCLA and chose the Badgers just weeks after they first contacted him. He will likely redshirt his first year on campus.

In the final week of the regular season, recruiting is all but over until after bowl season. But that wasnt stopping the Badgers from going hard on the last week. That intensity picked up another committment for coach Muzzy Colosimo. This time it was a RB out of Cahokia, Illinois. Kenny Bailey, a JuCo transfer is rated the #5 RB in the class and #41 throughout the whole class. He was only offered by Wisconsin but he seems to have that sleeper menatlity about him. One minute he is on the sidelines next he is running down the sidelines. "I wanted to play for a big time coach who could help me get to the pros. But I also needed a place to help me get my education first, my mom told me to say that*chuckle*" says Bailey. He has elusive back mentality with his size, speed, and ability to cut through the open wholes. His vision is his key to success.
