Boston College Preview

The Eagles look to improve off of their 8-6 record and Emerald Bowl loss to USC in 2010. Boston College is going to use a bruising and physical rushing attack primarily in the one back set. Leading the offense will be the young sophomore quarterback Chase Rettig. Rettig will not be asked to throw for 300 yards every game but if BC hopes to make a run at the division title Rettig will need to minimize the mistakes and make plays when they are there to be made. In their run heavy offense BC will rely on senior running back Montel Harris. Harris has a chance to be one of the best backs in the ACC and will certainly have the opportunities to show his talent. As Harris goes so will this offense, and if he has a big year the Eagles could be a dark horse in Atlantic Division and in the conference. The Eagles will feature a solid set of pass catchers led by 6'6" Ifeanyi Momah and the shifty sophomore Bobby Swigert. The Eagles will also deploy several tight ends that can catch and block. The best of this Chris Pantale, a junior from New Jersey. The glory in the running game may go to Harris, but if his line doesn't do its job he will go nowhere. The five starters on the line, from left to right, are John Wetzel, Nathan Richman, Mark Spinney, Bryan Davis, and Emmett Cleary. The Boston College offense has a chance to be very productive in the 2011 season, and if they are we could be in for a special year.

Everybody always wants to talk about offense but the strength of this Eagle team could very well be the young, swarming defense. This Boston College defense is physical and not afraid of any challenge. What they lack in experience they make up for in talent. If this group comes together we could see one of the best defenses that has ever graced Chestnut Hill. Whenever you think about BC defense it starts with the man in the middle, reigning ACC defensive player of the year, Luke Kuechly. The junior Kuechly is an absolute monster, and looks to continue the recent tradition of great linebacker play at Boston College. Up front the Eagles have a nice group that can get after the quarteback and play the run equally well. They are led by one of the few seniors on the team, Kaleb Ramsey. He and his partner in crime, fellow DT Dillon Quinn, clog up the running lanes in the middle as well as collapse the pocket. Both defensive ends, Max Holloway and Kasim Edebali, look to rack up the sacks in the 2011 campaign. Joining Mr. Kuechly at linebacker are LOLB Nick Clancy and ROLB Kevin Pierre Louis. Both outside linebackers showcase plenty of speed and have a nose for the football. The secondary features corners Donnie Fletcher and CJ Jones, free safety Jim Noel, and strong safety Dominique Williams. This group will be the key to the defense, if they play well opposing offenses will be in for a long days work. Overall BC has a very solid defense, but it is yet to see how they will fare against some of the high-powered, athletic offenses they will see week in and week out. All-in-all Boston College should be a better team this year and hopefully if the chips fall the right way can end up with ten wins for just the third time in school history.
