2013 Boston College Eagles
Boston College is coming off of the best season in school history in 2012. The Eagles won their first ever conference title, set a school record for wins, completed a perfect regular season, and played for a National Championship. Despite the loss in the big game to Oregon State BC's season was a success. Boston College lost a few guys off the team from last year but is returning arguably a better team overall. On offense the Eagles will look to pound the rock again as they have done for the first two seasons under Coach Petersen. The Eagles eclipsed 2,000 yards rushing a season ago and look to accomplish that same mark again. Defensively Boston College was much improved last season with a newly implemented 3-man front and looks to continue its improvement this year. The calling card of the defense a year ago was its ability to force turnovers and force them in bunches as they led the nation. The special teams unit will look to make its mark as it has done the past two years with all of the pieces back from a year ago.
Offense
Quarterback-Chase Rettig and his 3,500 plus yards and record setting touchdowns are gone, but the coaching staff is confident in the QBs they have. There was an intense battle all spring and summer long but the coaching staff has decided that sophomore Christian Suntrup has come out on top over junior Josh Bordner. The staff decided that Suntrup had better accuracy and decision making despite having no playing experience and gave him the job. Suntrup will be the starter as long as he continues to play well enough to keep it but each week will provide competition.
Running Back-Andre Williams is back for his junior season after a monster 2012 campaign. Williams set school records for yards rushing and rushing touchdowns last season while claiming a third place finish for the Heisman. Williams could get rested early in the year as the staff hopes to get superstar freshman Ryan Gardner some carries. Williams will carry the bulk of the load but the staff is looking to get Gardner involved as well.
Williams Looks to Run All over in 2013
Wide Receiver-This season Boston College will have its most dynamic corp of receivers that it has ever had. Bobby Swigert is the main target as he is going into his third year of work. The battle for the second WR is between Alex Amidon who has elite speed but is lacking in some areas and the improving daily Jonathan Coleman. This group will provide a huge help to whichever quarterback is in the game for the Eagles.
Bobby Swigert Scored more Times than Any BC WR last Year
Tight Ends-The Boston College offense relies heavily upon its TEs as they need to be excellent blockers and receivers. The two starters are both very young but have a ton of talent. Brian Miller, a sophomore, played last year and showed a lot of talent and is even better this season. The other TE is a 6'8" beast, Jevon Coley. Coley was a prized recruit and now will be his time to show if he was worth the time and effort.
Offensive Line-The offensive line is like the engine of the Boston College offense. It is the force behind the running game and makes the whole offense go. BC is lead by the man in the middle, junior C Andy Gallik. The others up front include: Jr LT Aaron Kramer, Jr RT Seth Betancourt, Sr RG Ian White, and Sr LG Corey Linsley. If these five can get a push and create holes BC will have the most explosive running game in the nation.
Defense
Defensive Line-Dillon Quinn set the all-time school record for sacks and is back to add onto that total. It isn't normal to see a DT get some many sacks but Quinn is absolutely relentless. Flanking Quinn will be will be Sr Kasim Edebali and Jr Dominic Appiah. The defenisve line will have to be great for the BC defense to be successful in 2013.
Linebackers-Boston College lost its greatest linebacker of all-time and what he meant to this team can't be replaced. However the linebacking unit as a whole could be better this season. Both outside linebackers are back as is the second MLB in the 3-4 scheme. Sr Kevin Pierre Louis is the leader of the group and he is looking to wreak havoc on opposing offense nation wide.
Kevin Pierre Louis will give Opposing Coordinators Nightmares
Secondary-The Eagles return ever player in the secondary this season. This experienced group will certainly look to lock down offenses on the perimeter both in the run and the pass. Jr Dominique Williams won the Thorpe Award a year ago and is looking to repeat as the award winner. Albert Louis Jean may be the best player in the BC secondary though. This guy can do it all and is looking to show he is even better as a sophomore.
Dominique Williams will be All over the Field for the Eagles
Special Teams
Nick Freese has only missed three kicks in his entire career and is coming off a season in which he led the nation in points scored. Freese has improved as a kicker each season and is looking to do the same again this year. Returning kicks and punts will be the ever dangerous Alex Amidon. Amidon is absolutely lethal when he has the ball in his hands. The most underrated part of the BC special teams is the punting game. The Eagles are great at pinning their opponents inside the 20, a stat in which they lead each of the last two season. Look for the BC special teams units to make a difference in close ball games this year.
