The start of the 2010 season was filled with excitement as the UCLA Bruins football team began their campaign to rebuilding their football program. What looked like a successful opening day win against a ranked opponent turned into a disappointing loss. The 22 ranked Cincy Bearkats traveled to sunny California for what they thought to be a easy road victory but left gasping for breath as they had to overcome a late 4th quarter deficit. The Bruins led by Sophmore QB K. Prince who finished 23 of 40 for 254 with 1 td but 3 4th quarter ints, that proved costly for the young QB. UCLA led every quarter except the 4th quarter, where the experienced bearkats came together and capitalized on key mistakes by the Bruins. 21 points in the 4th quarter off of turnovers put the nail in the Bruins coffin, which is exactly what they worked so hard not to do this season. On the bright side, the defense for the most part played well enough to win the game, holding the bearkats to 234 total offense but no turnovers. The Bruins coach expressed mixed feelings as the loss and late breakdowns was frustrating to him( plus his daughter was home from school and found a way to interrupt his game every 5 minutes!!! haha) and the fact that the talent level isnt quite up to his standards, the team showed they are headed in the right direction. With another tough home game against the North Carolina Tarheels ahead, the Bruins must get to work and prepare to win at any cost. The coach promised that every week the fans will see gradual improvement and finished the press conference with his usual qoute, "Winning Starts Now!!!"
