Cal pulls the upset to give them another conference win and make it 2 in a row. With Oregon's best defense(Cal's QB K.Riley) on the sideline with an injury, Cal's offense functioned fluidly.
Actually, Riley started the game fairly well going 7-10 for 70yds, a TD, but an INT to go with it, although the INT wasn't his fault this time. The backups stepped up to play when Riley with out with an Elbow Bruise, pussy! Sweeney finished the drive that Riley started with a TD, but was pulled in favor of the freshman phenom Bridgford. Bridgford was spectacular even playing with the stupid squiggly routes due to intense road game atmosphere.
Cal's defense played its most complete game of the season holding the potent Oregon offense to only 204 total yards including holding the ever elusive LaMichael James to only 22yds. The run defense for Cal was its best and held the deadly option attack of the Ducks in check, limiting the James/Masoli duo to -4yds rushing.
When we caught up with the grinning Coach B, he had this to say, "I'm extremely proud of our team today, we faced adversity being down 14-7 with our senior leader out for the day and our underclassmen(Sweeney/Bridgford) pulled us out of the hole and led us to victory. Not to take anything away from our young QBs, but the defense won us the game. Going into the half with a 24-21 lead, the defense showed what they are capable of shutting out the deadly Duck offense in the 2nd. Again, I'm really proud of our team; we showed that we will be a threat to the big boys whether it's this season or next."
Scoreline:
POTG:
Cal: QB A.Bridgford 20-33, 250yds, TD
Oregon: FS J.Boyett 12 Tkls, INT, TD
