For just over three quarters the Clemson offense and defense played over their heads and built a 20 - 7 lead on a rival that in the past they'd never been able hang with.
The bulldogs, as they have always done in the past, took the opening kickoff and drove down the field for a quick score and a 7 - 0 lead. Clemson responded with a field goal. After an exchange of punts left UGA deep in their own territory, a Clemson safety picked off a pass to set up a second tiger field goal to make the score 7 - 6. UGA wasted no time responding, driving deep into tiger territory, before again being picked off by a Clemson DB. Clemson responded with a TD drive just before the half to take a 13 - 7 lead into the half. The first lead they've ever held over UGA. The tigers receive the ball in the second half and put together an nice drive to add another TD for a 20 - 7 lead. The teams again traded punts. Clemson would drive into UGA territory, but costly sacks would prevent them from being able to score.
Upon receiving the ball back early in the 4th quarter, UGA hit a deep pass and scored on the following play to trim the margin to 20 - 14. Clemson would again drive into UGA territory and again Kyle Parker would take a costly sack forcing Clemson to punt. UGA receiving the ball with just under 3 minutes to play and having 90 yards to drive for the game winning score did just that. Using all the clock and scoring with 15 seconds left to cap the come from behind victory.
All in all the Tigers played a solid game against an opponent they'd been stuffed by in the past so it was good to see the improvement, but still a difficult loss to take give that there were several opportunities to put the game away and Clemson couldn't capitalize when it mattered.
