Kentucky escaped a brutal atmosphere in Starkville against the #13 Mississippi State Bulldogs 41-34. The Cats used a ball control offense for a majority of the second half to keep the Bulldogs at arms length, once they gained the lead in the 2nd half. The teams went to the half tied at 17.
There wasn't much defense to be spoken for as the teams tallied 769 yards of total offense between them, though there were some turnovers. The difference was 3 turnovers by the Bulldogs vs. 1 for the Wildcats. All turnovers came on interceptions.
"Josh was amazing today. It seemed like no one could stop him. I haven't seen or heard the stats, but I'll bet you he cleared 200 today," said center Matt Smith.
"He carried us today," said QB Morgan Newton. "He picked up so many big third downs to keep drives alive."
Sophomore RB Josh Clemons finished the game with a game-high, 28 carries for 224 yards. Senior Co'Shik Williams stole the endzone carries getting in twice after Clemons needed breaks after consecutive carries.
"Any road win, we'll take," said Coach David Jarvis.
The Wildcats become bowl eligible with win (6-3, 3-2) and play host to Vanderbilt next week.
