After an 0 – 3 start, no one expected the Tigers to be in this position in the ACC. Clemson is one win over FSU away from wrapping up the ACC Atlantic and a spot in the ACC title game with their 24 – 13 win over #18 UNC in Chapel Hill.

Clemson controlled this game for the most part holding UNC to under 200 total yards. The tigers struck first when Kyle Parker found WR Brandon Clear, who has stepped up his play as of late, on a 30 yard TD pass. Clear beat 2 UNC defenders on the play and Parker threw a beautiful ball that allowed Clear to catch the pass in back of the endzone drag a foot for the completion. The tiger D was tenacious all day and forced a second UNC three and out, however Andre Ellington muffed his second punt of the season, setting the Tarheels up in excellent field position. They could only manage a field goal though and the Tigers answered quickly with Parker hitting a double covered Marquan Jones for his second TD of the game and a 14 – 3 lead. The tigers added another FG off of a Crezdon Butler interception late in the half, for a 17 – 3 lead but allowed UNC to return the ensuing kickoff to midfield setting them up for a FG as time expired in the half, to make the score 17 – 6.
In the third quarter the teams exchanged punts, Clemson then took the ball and drove to the UNC 20. Facing fourth and inches, Clemson attempted to convert but was stuffed short. This gave UNC new life and the tarheels drove the field for a score to cut the lead to 17 – 13 late in the third quarter. The tiger offense managed to respond in kind with a lengthy drive of their own capped off by a 1 yard TD run by fullback Chad Diehl giving Clemson a 24 – 13 lead with 4 minutes left to play. The tigers then stopped UNC on down with three minutes remaining and killed clock for the remainder of the game to preserve the road win.
The efficient play of QB Kyle Parker and the outstanding performance by the tiger D were the key components to this win. WR Brandon Clear is beginning to become a consistent target for Parker and TE Dwayne Allen continues to be a consistent safety valve for Parker.
The bad news for Clemson is that RB Andre Ellington, the Tigers primary pass catching RB and return man went down for the season with an injury. After dodging major injuries for the majority of the year, The tigers have been beset by injuries at key positions losing Safety Marcus Gilchrest and DE DaQuan Bowers last week against Georgia Tech, both of which would be out until a bowl game.
