The Scarlett Knights won their second straight Big East game over visiting Louisville. DC Jefferson was dressed but still did not play. Latimer had another pedestrian outing but still not the future at the helm for the Knights. Ryan said "He is managing the game perfect and making minimal mistakes to hurt us." While these comments are positive, the underlying theme is, WE ARE WAITING FOR THE RETURN OF SAVAGE.
Latimer got the scoring started with a 47 yrd bomb to Harrison. Both teams would struggle from there and Rutgers would add a 52 yrd FG from Te. Some poor clock management for Rutgers had them watch the clock run out on Louisville 2 yrd line and failed to at least get 3 points. Rutgers went into halftime with a 10-0 lead.
Te would add another fg in the 3rd Quarter to go up 13-0. Louisville would storm back in the 4th Quarter making it 13-7. Te would add his 3rd fg of the game to make it 16-7 with 1:35 to go in the game. This is where it gets a little crazy. Louisville would score quickly to bring it to 16-14. Harrison would recover the onside kick with 45 seconds left. Rutgers would be faced with a 4th and 8 with 27 secs left. Decsion time. Ryan decided to let Latimer throw the ball, a shock to everyone in Rutgers Stadium. It resulted in a 24 yrd TD to Julien Hayes. Final score Rutgers 23 Louisville 14. When asked about the decision to throw the ball, Ryan said, "The momentum had def shifted to Louisville and they have really good quick strike ability. I did not want to punt and risk a run back or block, a fg goal would only have put us up by 5 and then we would have had to kickoff. So noone was expecting a pass from us so I thought why not?" The gamble paid off and Rutgers just became Bowl Eligible at 6-3. The Big East Championship is still a long shot though seeing that Rutgers would need losses by USF and WVU to force a 3 way tie.
