Defense and Running Game Fuel Upset

Boise, ID--The South Carolina Gamecocks went into Boise knowing that they had a huge challenge in front of them. After all nobody had beaten the Broncos on the blue rug in over 50 tries and Boise had their best team ever, a team that may have a chance to play for a National Title at the end of the year. USC had been listening to all they Boise hype and they wanted to prove that Boise was indeed just a regular Non-AQ school. The Broncos received the ball and got down the field pretty quickly looking for the first points of the game, but the Broncos faced a 4th-and-1 on the USC 35, the Gamecock defense was fired up and stopped a Doug Martin run up the middle. On the first USC play Garcia was a little late on a throw and it was intercepted, but the Boise player fumbled on the return and USC was given a second life. The Gamecocks would capitalize with 3 points. The Gamecocks held Boise to a punt and were back on the field looking to extend their lead. USC drove inside the 10 yard line and freshman sensation Marcus Lattimore capped off the drive with a short run and suddenly the normally raucous Boise faithful was silent with quarter one coming to a close. After another quarter and a Kellen Moore turnover and Garcia to Jeffery bomb the Gamecocks had jumped to a 20-0 halftime lead and the game had the makings of a blowout written all over it. While driving to open the second half Lattimore broke a big run but fumbled at the end giving Boise some life. Boise could only muster two second half touchdowns as the Carolina defense was up to the challenge. The offense would make a few mistakes put punched it in the endzone one more time which turned out to be plenty of cushion. South Carolina had upset #4 Boise State and moved to 3-0 on the young season. Next week will be yet another tough test for the young Gamecocks as they play host to a red-hot Stanford Cardinal team.
