The Minnesota Golden Gophers travelled to the Big House in Ann Arbor Michigan and shocked the rival Wolverines with a 51-10 victory and took claim to the Little Brown Jug for the first time in many years (5+). The Wolverines were without preseason heisman candidate QB Denard Robinson who was out with a bruised shoulder. The Wolverines won the coin toss and elected to kick. The Gophers drove down on a long drive with some clutch 3rd down conversions and would take a 7-0 lead on a Lamonte Edwards 9 yard TD reception from Marqueis Gray. The Wolverines would respond with a 40 yard FG on their first drive to cut the lead to 7-3. The Wolverines would score next midway through the 2nd quarter on a 86 yard TD pass from D.Gardner to R.Roundtree who out ran the CB and the safety on that side of the field for a easy TD. Minnesota would look to respond and were driving along nicely late in the 2nd quarter when QB Marqueis Gray had to leave the game with a injury. Backup QB Tim Parish came in and converted a key 3rd down pass and would later take it in himself from 2 yards out to put the Gophers up 13-10 with 12 seconds to go in the half, the Pat was hooked and went wide left.

QB Marqueis Gray went to Coach Turner at the break and begged him to let him play and when the teams came out of the tunnel his return was questionable. The 2nd half would open with the defenses playing strong and the teams trading possessions without any scoring. Then late in the 3rd quarter QB Marqueis Gray would cap off a nice drive with a 16 yard TD run when it looked like he should have been tackled for a gain of a couple yards, the ensuing PAT was good and Minnesota took a 20-10 lead with 49 seconds to play in the 3rd quarter. That run seemed to break the Wolverines back as they held Minnesota's run game in check for the most part and didn't have a turnover up to this point. Michigan preceded to to turn the ball over 3 times in the 4th quarter and were forced to punt on their other possessions. Meanwhile QB Marqueis Gray took his team on his shoulders leading them with 4 4th quarter rushing TD's in the 4th quarter from 57 yards out with 6:42 to play, 3 yards out with 5:14 to play, 18 yards out with 2:43 to play and finally from 25 yards out with 2:27 left leading to coach Turner to bring in his backups. Tim Parish lead the Gophers to a late FG. The Wolverines would show some life on offense but was probably due to the fact they were playing vs the 2nd team Defense and time would expire with them inside the Gophers red zone.

Marqueis Gray was huge in this one especially in the 2nd half returning from a injury going 9 of 13 for 118 yards and a TD and adding 26 carries for 173 and 5 TD's on the ground (all in the 2nd half) was named player of the game.

In a Post Game Interview Coach Turner was quoted "Im very pleased with our efforts coming out of the dressing room, it appeared our offense had worn the Wolverines down and were able to run click against a tired defense who had held us in check in the 1st half and Marqueis seemed to take over out there. Our defense played very well again espicially in the 2nd half and outside one long TD pass where I hope we can correct we held a very talented team to 3 pts. Our offense needs to cut down on the holding penalties too, this is not a offense built to convert on 3rd and longs."

Next up the Gophers travel to Purdue to face the 2-1 Boilermakers.
