The tenth ranked bruins traveled ten miles up the road to square off against their arch rival the twentieth ranked Trojans of Southern California. This is arguably one of the most intense rivalries in college football if not all of sports. Truthfully this game didn't even matter. UCLA had already clinched a spot to play in the PAC-12 championship and the Trojans were serving the last year of their bowl ban. Regardless this was the most important game of the year for these teams. The loser would automatically have a failure of a season. USC got the ball to start the game. Matt Barkley drove the Trojans down the field for an early TD. UCLA's offense would have to respond quick. Which they did Richard Brehaut had three clutch third down passes that kept the drive alive. The UCLA drive was capped off by a Jonathan Franklin touchdown run. Again Barkley and the Trojans would answer the call. Right before the quarter ended Curtis Mcneal had a 31 yard rushing TD to put USC up 14-7 at the end of one. Early in the second Jonathan Franklin was able to punch the ball in from 5 yards to tie the ball game at 14. Until the 1 min mark the 2nd quarter was a bunch of solid defensive ball. With 52 seconds left Taylor Embree caught a 40 yard TD pass from Brehaut to give the Bruins a 21-14 lead. USC got the ball and had some awful clock management that allowed UCLA to get the ball back with 30 seconds left at the 50 yard line. Brehaut was on fire. He drove the Bruins to another TD that was caught by Embree to make the halftime score 28-14. There was no scoring at all in the 3rd quarter. USC missed on a few chances to get back into the ball game. UCLA would drive down and score early in the 4th quarter. It was Taylor Embrees third TD of the game. On USC's very next offensive play Sheldon Price of UCLA picked it off and returned it for a score. That play pretty much ended the game. The teams would trade late TD's to make the final score 49-21.
