On a rainy cold day in Charlottsville Virginia things looked bleak early for the Cavaliers. Wisconsin stormed into Scott Stadium and seemed to have a 10-0 lead before the even stepped off the bus. But these Wahoos refused to let the home town fans go away disappointed. The Cavs took the ball the length of the field on the ensueing possession to cut the lead to 10-7. Then it was the Wahoo Ds turn. The next time the badgers had the ball they would force a pick which lead to the TD that gave them a 14-10 lead with about 45 ticks to go until half.
What happened next gave badger fans a quick glance of hope that was just as quickly snatched away from them. On the first play from scrimmage badgers qb Scott Toldien launched a hail mary that was miracuously pulled in at the Wahoo 5 yard line. Suddenly it looked like the badgers were guna take the lead when Scott Toldiens luck ran out. The next pass was picked off and looked like it would be a pick 6. However UVA LB Denzel Burrell just did not have the speed to out run badgers hb John Clay. Burrell was brought down in UW territory with 0:01 on the clock. Cavs kicker Robert Randolf knocked thru a 32 yd field goal ansd Virginia would take a 17-10 lead to the locker room.
The 2nd half started with a field goal drive from Wisconsin. Then came the drive of the game. The cavs took a 79 yard td drive that was capped off by a 1 yd TD run from Mikel Simpson to put the Hoos up 24-13. The badgers would have to settle for another short field goal on their next drive. Continually setteling for field goals would prove costly for Wisconsin would really struggled to capitalize on the end of drives. A late 39 yd FG capped a 27-16 W for Cavs.
In a rivalry week filled with trash talk and braggin it was clear on the field who was the better team. the cavs didn't get down on their selves when they fell behind early. The pushed through the adversity and won a big game for WAHOO NATION. The game will always be remembered as just another great matchup in this historic rivalry and Coach Hill first career Victory. great win boys.
