Aggies Recruiting Report Tx_am_10

Preseason Report

For the 2010 campaign Texas A&M has only nine seniors. That means great things for the future of the Aggies football program. The Aggies will have most of their key players coming back, 19 of 22 starters. That does mean however, that they will have fewer scholarships to work with. The Aggie's coaching staff has said they have a few targets on their list that are essential to this years recruiting. With only having 14 scholarships available this A&M recruiting class won't have the depth that last years class did but it will look to be even better on the front end. The A&M staff believes that most of their offense should be set for the next couple of years so their main focus in recruiting will be on the defensive side. Coach Bryant is trying to make A&M into a defense first type of team and that is the approach he is taking in recruiting. Coach Bryant has already laid a nice foundation for the defense and the team in general but wants to build on it with this class.

Thanks. It's pretty simple. Just click on the table icon above the box it's the 14th one from the left. Then you input however many rows and columns you want and it produces the code. Whatever information you want in there you put between the td brackets. I hope that makes sense it's not too hard if you just play around with it a little bit you can get it to work

After no commits the first five weeks the Aggies get two following the home game against Texas Tech. Ben Dockery from Brooklyn, Ohio has committed to coming to College Station. Ben is the number one rated DT in the nation and will certainly help replace departing DT Lucas Patterson. The Aggies beat out several teams for Dockery, most notably Wisconsin, USC, and Ohio State. Dockery comes in at 6'3" tipping the scales at 265. Ben squats an impressive 655 pounds along with a 450 pound bench press. Coach Bryant and the staff are very excited about the ability Dockery will bring to the team.

The second commitment of the week is Dan Boyd from Hillsboro, Tx. Boyd a 6'6" 330 Lbs Guard has excellent run blocking skills and strength. Boyd, the number two Guard in the class, will most likely come in and redshirt his first year to develop his skill set further and learn the offense. Boyd puts up 620 pounds on squat and 456 pounds on bench. The Aggies beat out Florida, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Texas, and Oklahoma among others for Boyd. It is clear that Coach Bryant is not going to back down from any school in order to secure a recruit that he wants.

You'll be alright there's still plenty of time to catch up on guys. Maybe you need to narrow your focus or pull off on guys that you are behind a lot on or that another user is going after hard. If you spread yourself to thin you will never catch up

14Aggies Recruiting Report Empty Chris Clemens Tue Mar 16, 2010 11:43 pm

The Aggies have added the top rated cornerback to their list of commitments this week. That corner is Chris Clemens from Forestville, Ohio. Clemens was recruited heavily by Penn State, Wisconsin, Ohio State, and Notre Dame, but Clemens made the choice to head south and play for the famous Coach Bear Bryant. Clemens is an extremely gifted athlete that has excellent cover skills. There are a few areas that Clemens can improve in and it is possible that a redshirt could allow him to improve in those areas, since he would be sitting behind McQueen and Harris anyways. With a redshirt under his belt he will be able to come in and compete for a starting job as a RS Freshman. Clemens is best known for his speed thanks to his blazing 40 time of 4.38, but he also has shown good strength for a DB with a 241 pound bench press and 235 pound squat. Clemens has a bright future on the Aggies defense.

The Aggies added another player to the defense with the signing of DE Derrick Whitmore. Whitmore is a big 6'2" 263 pound end that can rush the passer and play the run both equally well. Whitmore is a physical presence at end that likes to attack which fits perfectly into Coach Bryant's defensive scheme. The Aggies beat out Texas and Oklahoma among several other schools. More than likely Whitmore will get a redshirt to develop more and then should be a force for several years. This is the first Aggie recruit to come out of Louisiana this season, the Aggies have also collected players from the home state and from Ohio. With this commitment the Aggies should be able to focus more on the guys that have been on the back burner for the first part of the season, but the staff hopes that the commitments will continue to pour in.

The Aggies have added yet another 5 star prospect bringing their total to four on the year with the commitment of Brendan Gray. The 6'3" 241 Lbs outside linebacker hails from Liberty, Texas, the second player from the Aggies home state, should fit in perfectly as an athletic run stopping linebacker that can flat out run. Gray is not only one of the biggest OLBs in this years class he is also one of the fastest giving him a rare combination of size and speed. Not only does Gray have all the physical tools he is also a gritty, hard nosed player who loves and thrives on contact. Coach Bryant has said the best thing about Gray is that he never misses a tackle, once he has you he isn't letting go. Gray is also a very smart player, giving him potential to make an immediate impact. Yet again the Aggies beat out some prime competition for Gray as Texas, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, and Notre Dame were all very interested as were several other big time programs. Gray will definitely help make an already good defense better in 2011.

This week the Aggies were able to snag a couple of recruits that will help add to the depth of next year's Aggies team. The Aggies were able to get, in their estimation the best kicker in this years class, Jonathan Harris from East Point, Georgia. Harris has an incredibly strong leg, the strongest in the nation and even stronger than the Aggies current kicker, All-American Bullock. Although he is rated fifth Harris out shone the other kickers in his class at the Aggies Kicking Camp over the summer, and showed the staff nice accuracy to go along with his strong leg. The Aggies plan to redshirt him during Bullock's senior year then the show will be all his in 2012 and it will remain his for hopefully four full seasons.

18Aggies Recruiting Report Empty Robert Cutler Sat Mar 20, 2010 11:40 pm

With the Aggies losing QB Jerrod Johnson to graduation this season they needed to pick up another quarterback, and were able to find Robert Cutler from Mansfield, Texas. Robert wasn't highly recruited and he wasn't sure if the Aggies or any other Big 12 school would offer him. He has been playing well his entire senior season and this last week the Aggies decided the would offer Cutler a scholarship for their 2010 class. Cutler knew the Aggies were looking for a QB and he committed on the spot meaning any late comers would not have a chance at him. It is uncertain at this time what the future holds for Cutler as QB at A&M but he will certainly be learning behind a couple of greats in Tannehill and Dorman. Cutler may lack the traditional QB prototype but he is a good athlete and competitor.

This was a huge week in the Aggies recruiting. They were able to secure four commitments this week prior to their game with the Oklahoma Sooners. The first player to commit was Adam Schroeder out of Euless, Texas. Schroeder is the fourth rated Strong Safety coming in at 5'9" and 206 pounds. Adam lacks some height but he certainly makes up for it in other areas. Adam is a thick, strong, physical player who will come in and compete for a starting position right away and push the other safeties to get better. Adam is one of the fastest safeties in the country and has shown excellent zone coverage skills along with being a sure tackler. The Aggies once again beat out some tope teams for Adam beating out Texas and Florida.

The Aggies have their second DT commitment of the class this week, Mike Jacques. Jacques will be a future compliment to Ben Dockery, the number one DT who committed earlier in the season. Mike is a giant in the middle at 6'5" 290 pounds. The Aggies were able to go to the west coast to snatch up Jacques from Cornelius, Oregon. While Mike has excellent size he is actually more of a quick DT, he has great feet and move very well for a big guy. He will look to add some strength before he gets out on the field, but once he does he should be a force to be reckoned with. As expected A&M beat out several Pac 10 schools, UCLA, Cal, and USC, to get a commitment for Jacques. Jacques will definitely get a redshirt next season as he looks to develop into a more consistent and stronger player.

The Aggies have gotten a commitment from their one and only RB in this class, Alex Fontenot. Fontenot (#3 RB in the nation) is a 6'2" 204 pound RB from Dothan, Alabama. The Aggies are most excited about Alex's speed as he is the fastest recruit in the entire nation running a 4.32 in the forty yard dash. There is much more to Alex's game than speed however, as he is a very strong and powerful runner who rarely goes down by first contact. Alex will most likely see a redshirt his first season in College Station seeing as the Aggies have all five of their backs returning next season. Once Fontenot see the field for the Aggies he will have an impact right away. To convince Fontenot to come to A&M the Aggies had to beat out USC, Miami, and Notre Dame.

The final commitment of the week came from TE John Olson from Roma, Texas. Olson is the #6 TE in the class and the #121 player in the country. John is the fastest TE in the nation and has good hands and feet to go with it. The A&M staff is so impressed with Olson's speed and hands they have not ruled out the possibility of moving him to receiver. No matter where Olson plays he will most likely get a redshirt, as the Aggies have plenty of TEs and Olson still needs developing as a WR. The Aggies beat out Ole Miss, Penn State, and Oklahoma to get Olson.

I was #1 on Jaques's list until I lost to USC, since then I wasn't able to regain lost ground...as much as I don't like losing recruits, it's cool to actually compete for them. My other dynasty it seems as though I only have 1 or 2 recruits that the other users are also after...just curious King, are you still going after the #2 HB since you already got one?

Ya competing for recruits is exciting because it actually feels like real life unlike in offline dynasties where you can get whoever you want. And I'm not recruiting any other RBs. I was recruiting another guy early in the season but am not anymore but I don't think he was the #2 RB

Barring any players leaving early for the pros or due to transfer the Aggies have completed their 2010 recruiting. They have signed their twelfth and thirteenth players this week following their visits to the Oklahoma game. The first commit was a soft commit the week before Matt Freeman. Freeman is a 6'4' 304 pound tackle from Mena, Arkansas (the first commit of the year from Arkansas). Freeman is the #3 Tackle and #28 overall giving the Aggies six commitments out of the top 29 players. Freeman is an athletic lineman who is a well rounded blocker. He doesn't really have an area that he is weak in. To land Freeman the Aggies had to beat out Oklahoma and LSU as the main competitors. Freeman will really help add depth to a strong offensive line that the Aggies have.
