Coach B gave his first interview today addressing a major topic for any 1st year coach, how are you going to compete with the big boys not only nationally but also within the state? Coach B responded with this: "While USC may have the glory and the limelight in the state for now, this year has yet to begin. The more attention they have is better for us actually, the bigger they are, the harder they fall." We hope to report back soon with initial targets for the Golden Bears first hunt.

Coach B has always had the same approach to recruits...go after the ones you want first, and that is exactly what the Cal coach did in his first week. With only 4 required positions to fill but 17 seniors leaving, Cal is sitting pretty well with talent. However, the biggest hole this offseason will come on the offensive line. With all 5 starters graduating, Coach B will have to either get some talented recruits for next year or hope that underclassmen step up. This is looking to be a good year for the Golden Bears, they start out with interest from several 4* recruits and impressed several 5*s this week, we will keep you updated on the Bear's recruiting hunt. So long and have a good day...

Coach B picked up his first recruit as Cal head coach, while it isn't the highest caliber QB on his radar, QB O.Mason has a great arm and accuracy. In other news this week, 4* G Roman Scott made his offical visit to Berkley and loved what he saw. After catching up with Scott, he had this to say, "I love Cal's academic reputation, I know I can't play football forever, and my parents want me to stick close to home." Coach B looks forward to speaking to Scott more in the next few weeks and hopes to sign another prospect to his first recruiting class. Until next week, happy hunting...

The past few weeks have been busy for the Bear hunt. While no new signees, the Bears are receiving a lot of interest from around the country with interest with several 4* recruits all the way from Hawaii to New Jersey and everywhere in between. However, with the talent pool so close to home, the majority of the recruit are in Cali with several of the Bears' top recruits preferring to stay close to their parents. This year is shaping up to be a great year for the Bears with a Top 25 class in the first ranking of the year. That's all for this week, we'll keep you informed on everything Bears relate. Until next time, happy hunting!

Pretty much halfway through Coach B's first season at the helm of the Bear's recruiting hunt, he has a pretty feel for the Pac-10's bad recruiting. Although recruits seem drawn the SEC to moths to the flame, Cal is on the top of 15 of the 35 recruits that Coach B is pursuing. With one hole filled and only 3 remaining positions to find replacements for, Coach B has said he will take his time and find the best available person for each of the positions. Unfortunately for the Bears, a 4 game road trip with the 4th sandwiched between bye weeks, which aren't good for recruiting, judging by the first bye week visits. Don't blame 'em, paying all that money to fly out to a school for a visit and then not getting to watch a game? Anyway, we're closing in on those elusive recruits and the hopes of a top 10 recruiting class. Have a great day and happy hunting...

Past the mid-season point, most recruits are down to their top 5 choice by now. If Cal signs 90% of their prospects that have them as their #1 choice, Cal should end up with a top 25 class if not top 10. After saying that, Cal picked up their 2nd recruit of the season in OLB T.Wright on their first contact. While only being a 1* OLB, after looking at his ratings, Cal decided to offer him a scholarship without even asking a single question. With great speed and block shedding and decent enough others, it's amazing he is only a 1* prospect. Well, that is all the time we have this week. Figured we'd catch you up with Cal's latest catch.

Cal picked up another recruit this week, this time it's QB Alex Rice. Some may think that because Cal already has a phenom on the bench and another QB in this year's class that Cal wouldn't still be looking for a QB. With that being said, Coach B responded to the question, "QB Mason is a great QB, but is more of a pocket passer compared to Rice. Rice has RB skills with an arm to match. Our offense has several QB options in the playbook that can't be used by our current stable of QBs, Riley and Bridgford both have a great arm, but neither has the feet to move to pocket or avoid sacks. That is the reason Rice will be a successful QB at Cal, hopefully for 4yrs." Well, you heard it here first. We'll keep you posted as the season comes to a close and Cal starts picking up those top recruits.

Sorry for the past couple of weeks, it's been busy in Berkeley. Last week during the bye week, Cal picked up HB Will Ricks, who Cal hopes will be the future running back to replace Shawn Vereen. Ricks is an explosive runner with top speed, agility, and acceleration. Ricks will probably redshirt next season since Vereen is only a junior and will hopefully develop his block which will be a necessity.

Ricks had a few words at his press conference to announce his decision, "After weighing the choices, it came down to just 2 schools in Cali. I love the weather and atmosphere in the Bay Area, but my deciding factor was Coach B and his dedication to Cal. I see him leading Cal to great places and I want to be part of that."

This week before the Oregon State match up, Cal picked up the first of hopefully many offensive line recruits. Decimated by graduating seniors, the O-line will have many holes next season, but G Roman Scott will fill one of them. Scott has had Cal at the top of his list for weeks now and after flirting with UCLA, finally committed to the Bears. While Scott was not too worried about starting his freshman year, it may happen depending on off-season training of the current guards.

Scott said very little about his decision, "I love football, but there is life beyond the football field. Cal presented a unique opportunity to get a great education, but also a chance to be part of Coach B's reformation of Cal."

That catches us up with the Bear's hunt and hopefully we will be bringing more reports in the next few weeks as several recruits are narrowing their choices and picking their futures.

The hunt found another Bear this week, this time is T Jamie Marshall. Marshall is balanced blocker that will fit in perfectly to Cal and Coach B's system. Depending on graduation, transfers, and anything else along that matter, Marshall may start his freshman year, but Coach B would like to redshirt him and allow him time to improve some skills; mainly awareness. Well, that's all this week, watch for us the next couple of weeks as the offseason grows closer.
