Behind the arm of Bridgford, Cal dodged the upset attempt at home to Stanford. Coming into the game, Cal had already locked up the Pac-10 and was looking to keep their slim NC hopes alive, the only thing in the way? The Stanford Cardinal. After dishing blows and swapping FGs in the first qrt and trading TDs in the opening minutes of the 2nd, Stanford's defense provided a lift as the would get 1 of 2 first half INTs on a errant throw by Bridgford the play after an overturned TD from the 8yd line. After the INT, Stanford would drive but come up short and settle for a FG. Next possession for Cal, Bridgford would hit a couple of quick completions in what looked to be the answer for the INT, but yet another INT, the 2nd of the half, would be returned 49yds for the TD that would put Stanford ahead 20-3. Looking to rebound after 2 straight drives ending with INTs, Bridgford drove the field behind the smooth hands of backup TE Sparks, but the drive would stall out as the clock forced Cal to look deep. Cal would settle for a FG to close out the half with Stanford leading 20-5 and thinking upset heading into the break. The 2nd half saw Bridgford continue to throw excellent passes and better yet, no INTs. Cal took the opening kick of the 2nd half and drove the field and would score the first TD of a 17pt 3rd qrt that would give Cal their first lead with 19sec left in the 3rd. The defense held strong and shutout Stanford after seeming absent in the first half. The pressure of the upset appeared too much for Stanford as Cal's slim 3pt lead turned to 10 on Cal's first drive of the 4th. Stanford would not give up so easily as they answered with a quick score on a 48yd TD. Then Bridgford would seal the game as Cal would fire off another 17 unanswered points to stave off the upset.
Coach B was elated as we caught up with him after the game and had a few words to say, "I'm extremely pleased with our team's poise today, after getting behind by a rather big margin in the first half, both sides clamped down and fought hard to not only get us back in the game, but to decimate Stanford. if you would have told me at halftime that we would win by 20, I would have laughed you out of the stadium."

Might not even be an issue since A&M will jump both of either way
