In a rainy and cold opening day at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Wisconsin the Texas Tech Red Raiders won the toss and chose to defer. After the kick, the Badgers were forced to punt after running three plays up the gut and gaining a total of 4 yards. However, the Badger D stepped up and stopped Tech on 3 downs and forced them to punt. And after a steady drive of run and passing plays Wisconsin scored on a screen play to WR Nick Toon from 25 yards out to take an early 7-0 lead. The first quarter would end with that score and the red raiders have the ball to start the second.
After driving down the field, TxTech scored on a short pass play in the badger redzone, making it 7-7 early in the 2nd. On the ensuing kickoff, UW was called for holding on the return and that would prove to stop their little momentum they had. They were forced to punt, which was the first of 3 in a row on the 2 teams upcoming drives. After UW 2nd punt, a TxTech WR fumbled the ball after it was stripped by a Badger DB, giving the ball to Wisconsin deep into enemy territory. It was just the next play that Wisonsin scored again on a 37 deep ball to the reliable Nick Toon. http://www.easports.com/media/play/video/15955840

This making the score 14-7. After the kick and one play of the Red Raider drive, Wisconsin picked of the pass of Taylor Potts and are at midfield. Driving under a 2 minute drill, Scott Tolzien could not lead his team far enough down field as they had to kick a 52 yard field goal into the wind, which proved to be too strong and the badgers walk away with nothing except handing the ball over. The next 2 plays literally went back and forth. As the first play on there was stopped on a fumble from a bone crushing hit by the freshman LB. However, Tolzien was pressured very quickly and threw a pass up for grabs hoping his man would catch it. The completion only happened in his dreams as it was picked off. The red raiders were forced to punt the ball with :11 seconds left. The quarter ended on a kneel down by Tolzien to go into the half with a score of 14-7 Wisconsin.
On the first drive of the second qtr Texas Tech scored on a long pass over the right side of the field. After a pick and a FG by TxTech they lead 17-14 mid way through 3 and never gave up the lead from there. After a huge kickoff taken to the Red Raider 45 Tolzien threw his 3rd pick of the day, which led to an eventual TD giving the,m the lead 24-14 starting the 4th. After a Wisc FG making the score 24-17, Tech started their next drive on their own 16 due to a clipping penalty, however, did not affect their passing game as they needed only 2 plays to take it down the field for a TD, 31-17 Tech. Wisconsin scored another TD to David Gilreath from 25 yds out, 31-24 Tech. Another FG from Tech was the final points of the game with less than 1 minute to play. The final score of this game was 34-24 Texas Tech over the Wisconsin Badgers.
