Mississippi State was looking to make a statement in their first SEC game of the year. They were up against the defending national champs and 15 game win streak Auburn Tigers. Mississippi State would put together an offensive performance that few will soon forget. They racked up over 600 yards of total offense (327 passing and 281 rushing) while scoring 56 points on a much different looking Tiger bunch. Chris Relf would do it again as he passed for over 300 and 3 scores as well as rushing for nearly 50 and a TD. He had plenty of help though as the Bulldogs had two 100 yard rushers (WR Heavens and HB Ballard) and a 100 yard receiver (Chris Smith). The offense was good but it could have been even better if they eliminated even a few of the 10 penalties that hinder them all day. The defense didn't perform as well as the first week but held there own. They had a hard time stopping Dyer who looked like an elite HB today. The Dogs will look to build on this 56-42 win as they go through the rest of their schedule. The Bulldogs move to 2-0 and next take on the other Tigers, for LSU, for MSU's first of 5 home games on the year.
