2011 Year in Review
The Boilermaker offense was lead by speedy Junior halfback Ralph Bolden. Bolden set new school records in both rushing yards (1980) and rushing touchdowns (17). Purdue had a rough start to the season falling to 3-2 after getting rocked by NC State and Minnesota. The Boilermakers rebounded with a strong win at Penn State 44-7. Big Ten rival Illinois was up next at Purdue in week 8. With Purdue down 7 late in the game and Illinois driving it didn't look good. The turning point of the 2011 season happened next as the Boilermakers picked off the Illini in the end zone. The game and the season turned around for the Boilermakers on this play. Purdue would beat the Illini 38-34 and rattle off 7 straight Big Ten wins to finish the regular season 10-2 and win the Big Ten Leaders Division.
Momentum ran out as Minnesota tore apart the Boilermakers 34-0 on their way to a national championship.
Purdue faced off #10 Alabama in the Capitol One Bowl and took the victory 24-21 on Ralph Bolden's 3 touchdown performance.
