Sorry for the past couple of weeks, it's been busy in Berkeley. Last week during the bye week, Cal picked up HB Will Ricks, who Cal hopes will be the future running back to replace Shawn Vereen. Ricks is an explosive runner with top speed, agility, and acceleration. Ricks will probably redshirt next season since Vereen is only a junior and will hopefully develop his block which will be a necessity.
Ricks had a few words at his press conference to announce his decision, "After weighing the choices, it came down to just 2 schools in Cali. I love the weather and atmosphere in the Bay Area, but my deciding factor was Coach B and his dedication to Cal. I see him leading Cal to great places and I want to be part of that."
This week before the Oregon State match up, Cal picked up the first of hopefully many offensive line recruits. Decimated by graduating seniors, the O-line will have many holes next season, but G Roman Scott will fill one of them. Scott has had Cal at the top of his list for weeks now and after flirting with UCLA, finally committed to the Bears. While Scott was not too worried about starting his freshman year, it may happen depending on off-season training of the current guards.
Scott said very little about his decision, "I love football, but there is life beyond the football field. Cal presented a unique opportunity to get a great education, but also a chance to be part of Coach B's reformation of Cal."
That catches us up with the Bear's hunt and hopefully we will be bringing more reports in the next few weeks as several recruits are narrowing their choices and picking their futures.
