Coach Quinlan was fortunate that the previous Cal coaching staff had been doing something right, or more like exceptional. Coach inherits a recruiting class that currently ranks in the Top 15 as he looks to build on it even further and is looking for his first commit since taking over the head coaching job. The current class stands as such:

4*WR Cory Thomas
3*C Mike Carpenter
3*C Ryan Spicer
3*CB Brent Smith
3*CB Robert Jones
3*OLB Dan Simmons
3*SS Cameron Powell
3*SS Patrick Robinson
3*TE Albert Watkins
3*HB Shaun Cook
1*FB Marc Gore

Total: 11

Breakdown:

1 - Four-star Prospect
9 - Three-star Prospects
1 - One-star Prospect

Coach Quinlan received his first commitment today as the head coach of Cal as 3*HB Shaun Cook committed to playing for the Golden Bears next season. This brings the Cal class up to 11 commitments and looks to be a solid year for the Bears in recruiting.

*The roster above has been altered to include the new commit*

California started the 2012 season off right as they were able to pull off a last second victory over Penn State. Following the victory, Coach began hitting the recruiting trail for the first time this season.

When coach called 3*QB Brad Washington and offered him a scholarship, Washington jumped at the opportunity and agreed to play for the Golden Bears next season.

Coach Quinlan was elated to receive a hard commit so early in the season. "We're happy Brad decided to join us. He's a kid that should fit well into our system as throughout his high school years he has displayed great mobility and shown the ability to make all the necessary throws," Coach Q said when asked about Washington. "He may not see the field right away as we have some very capable young men ahead of him, but you never know. We are just happy to see him in a Cal uniform next season."

We are nearing the end of the regular season and the Cal recruiting class is looking sharp so far. Needing a few more commits to truly get into the elite group of classes this season, here is how the Bears class currently stands:

4*WR Jared Webb
4*WR Franklin Hill
4*HB Glenn Ervin
4*T Reggie Hill
3*C Marques Manning
3*SS Nick Taylor
3*TE John Robinson
3*G Tony Hargrove
3*QB Brad Washington

The offensive side of the ball has been outstanding on the recruiting front this season. With the rivalry game against Stanford coming up the Bears also have a few recruits visiting that they are hoping to sign.

4*OLB Reggie Richard
4*FS Tyler Hines
3*OLB Chris Browne
3*QB Eric Jackson
3*DT Tyrell Massey

With a good visit this weekend the Bears are hoping to see at least 3 of these kids commit to playing for Cal next season. As you can see the Bears are making a hard push for some quality defenders at the end of the season to bolster a strong defense that has been giving up too many big plays this year.

Cal's current recruiting class has been bolstered to 11 commits as of Week 14 of this season.

4*WR Jared Webb
4*WR Franklin Hill
4*HB Glenn Ervin
4*T Reggie Hill
3*OLB Chris Browne
3*QB Eric Jackson
3*C Marques Manning
3*SS Nick Taylor
3*TE John Robinson
3*G Tony Hargrove
3*QB Brad Washington

With the last game of the regular season to take place this week against Utah, look for the Golden Bears to make a big push for some of the new recruits at the beginning of the offseason to push this class to elite status.

Having just finished Week 3 of offseason recruiting, the Cal class is getting finalized. With the hopes of signing another 1-2 recruits through Weeks 4 and 5, the Golden Bears class is looking good. Some of the commits have a good possibility of contributing early as Coach Quinlan is signing his second recruiting class since taking the head coaching job as he gets closer and closer to filling out the roster to fit into his scheme. Currently, the class stands at 12 commits:

4*WR Jared Webb
4*WR Franklin Hill
4*HB Glenn Ervin
4*T Reggie Hill
3*QB Eric Jackson
3*QB Brad Washington
3*SS Ricky Smart
3*SS Nick Taylor
3*C Marques Manning
3*TE John Robinson
3*G Tony Hargrove
3*OLB Chris Browne

This year's class has been heavy on the offensive side with 3 offensive linemen, 1 TE, 2 WRs, 1 HB, 2 QBs so expect to see a more defensive-oriented class next season
