Akron Zips
@
Syracuse Orange
----> Syracuse, N.Y.
The Syracuse Orange looked to be in full control early on as they forced the Zips to punt on their first possession. However, on the punt, return man Mike Holmes muffed it and there was also a holding call on a downfield blocker. Doug Hogue took matter into his own hands intercepting the next play from scrimmage, which led to a drive capped off by a 33yd Ross Krautman FG.
Delone Carter showed what he could do early and often. He had 100 yards rushing with over 5 minutes left to play in the first. It all started with his 72 yard touchdown run to make the score 10-0 which would end the first after Ryan Nassib threw in interception in the redzone.
SU would not stop there, the forced akron inside their own 5yd line and Bud Tibbey came up with a safety to make the score 12-0. This would be followed by another interception thrown by Ryan Nassib, but would put the Zips in the same position and another saftey was put on the board this time by Chandler Jones. 14-0 Cuse. Akron would score 20 yard touchdown pass with less than :20 left in the half making the score at the break 14-7 Cuse.
The second half would consist of utter domination by the Orange. It included 3 touchdown runs(2 of more than 50 yards, and two by Delone Carter) and a 36 yard pass from Nassib to Alec Lemon. Kevyn Scott intercepted the Pat Nicely pass to end the game.
Delone Carter ended with a career high 235 rushings yards(72, 53, 4), and 3 touchdowns. He is expecting his NPOTW award. "I love these linemen!" exclaimed Carter.
The Syracuse Orange improve to 1-0 and will take on the "Cocks" of South Carolina(1-0) next week.
