Boston College Puts Together a Great Performance in Victory
Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts--Boston College took the field looking to get 10 wins in a season for the fifth time in school history. Florida State would push them early but BC would show that it has the stuff of champions and put together its best defensive performance of the year. The defense is rounding into form at the most critical point of the season as the Eagles look to capture their first ACC crown.
Swigert Makes an Outstanding Catch on the Sideline
The BC offense struggled to get going early but the defense did their part to keep them in the game. Florida State struck first when Thompson scored late in the first quarter. Boston College was driving when Rettig made one of his worst throws ever and it was intercepted and returned for a TD. Just like that BC was in a huge hole. The Eagles would dominate the rest of the second quarter and third quarter outscoring FSU 35-0 in that span. A forced fumble and a touchdown got the Eagles going with their first score.
Larmond Gets Both Feet in Bounds to Get BC on the Board
On the next drive BC forces yet another fumble setting up the Eagles yet again. This time a big hit would jar the ball loose and Jim Noel would scoop it up. Harris pounds his way to paydirt a few plays later tying the game up at 14. Just like that BC was back in the game.
Noel is on the Spot to Give BC the Ball
With the game tied at 14 FSU would look to regain the control they lost. On a third and long a screen pass gashed BC for more than needed on the play, but with great hustle and effort the Eagles rallied to the ball. The receiver was stripped of the ball and DT Dan Quinn saw the ball on the pounced on it. The Eagles had forced turnovers on three straight drives, and the three turnovers forced was already a season high.
Boston College Collects its Third Straight Turnover
Harris would find the endzone again a few plays later giving Boston College the lead for the first time all game. One more score before the halftime break would extend the lead to 14 as BC went up 28-14 and would receive the ball to start the second half.
The third quarter would be another low scoring quarter as the Boston College defense continued to dominate the game. The Eagles would only score only once in the third quarter, but it was Montel Harris's fourth score (two rushing and two receiving). The score would give BC a 35-14 cushion. If they BC defense continued to play as well as they had the lead would surely stand.
Harris Follows his Blockers to the Endzone
Boston College wouldn't score again in the game but they wouldn't need to. The defense let in another score but it hardly diminishes their best performance of the year. The defense was ruthless and swarming and limited the big plays to only one. They didn't tackle great early on but tackled better as the game went on. FSU has a great offense and Boston College is proud of the defensive effort the put forth. Next week Boston College will look to secure at least a share of the division crown when they face off against North Carolina State in what is maybe the biggest game of the year.Final: 35-21
