Eagles Cruise by Noles, Near Division Crown
Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts-- The Boston College Eagles were celebrating several key seniors against FSU on senior day. No player has meant more to Boston College than its senior leader Luke Kuechly. Kuechly hasn't put up quite the kind of stats this year but his leadership and example will be missed. There are only a handful of seniors on the roster but each senior has a role on the team. These seniors are trying to go out on a high note and the schools first division and conference title would certainly accomplish that.
Florida State had more talent than anybody BC has played and more than they probably will play this year and it showed. Florida State scored the second most points on the Eagles this season and were the first team to take a halftime lead against BC. In the end, the Eagles were too much for the Seminoles. BC got off to a good start taking a 10-0 lead through the first quarter. Andre Williams got BC on the board on its first drive and Freese tacked on a field goal with one minute left in the quarter.
Florida State's defense would prove tough in the second quarter limiting Boston College to one chip shot field goal. Florida State's offense would come to life as they would score a TD midway through the second quarter to cut into the lead. Then the first play after Freese's second field goal FSU QB Clint Trickett found a wide open teammate for an 80 yard touchdown. Just like that Florida State had stolen the lead away and looked to ruin Boston College's perfect season.
Boston College would respond in the second half however. BC would score 28 points unanswered to completely flip the game in favor of the home team. Rettig threw for his one and only touchdown of the game to take the lead back and then Andre Williams would take over. He would score the next three touchdowns of the game effectively putting any doubts to rest. After the final Williams touchdown the second string was in the game. The backups have gotten a significant amount of playing time this season that can only help them in the future as they have gotten at least some time in every game since week four. Against the backups FSU would add one more TD and BC would call on Freese for a pair of short field goals. Boston College could clinch its first Atlantic Division as early as next week. Final: 47-21
