in a game of David vs Goliath the Illini traveled to historic Bryant-Denny stadium and ran the tide out of their own building. The game started great for Bama who rumbled to a 31-7 lead in just the second quarter! Illini fans headed for the exits as the tide looked overpowering on both sides of the ball. Suddenly the spark Illinois so desperately needed went off as WR R. Lankford got in front of the offense and pleaded to them to start playing, seeing the passion Coach Boone instantly went to the drawing board making sure to get the speedy receivers the ball. They responded as the Illini capped the half with a touchdown pass to Lankford with just 30 seconds left. The 2 pt conversion failed leaving the halftime score 31-13. The second half was a night and day story from the team, the defense swarmed and the playmakers made plays! Led by an Oregon like spread running game and timely passes the offense reeled off 16 third quarter points to cut the deficit to 31-29! The 4th was also dominated by the determined underdogs who outscored the Tide in the 4th 22-7 to cap off a 51-38 illini victory! The illini rushed for 554 yards and 6 touchdowns, 697 total offense! Next on the illini schedule is another talented SEC team as they welcome mississipi state to Champaign for what should be an offensive battle!
